DoubleTree Suites by Hilton

Directions to the hotel from the airport:

  • On the DoubleTree website: the 'Super Shuttle' costs $13, drops you off at the hotel, and should be booked in advance. A cab will cost $20-25.
  • The MetroAirport Bus (#100) leaves from the airport every 30 minutes, costs $1.75, and has a stop (15th St and Trinity) about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. (Google Maps directions)
  • N.b. As of May 9th 2016, Uber and Lyft have decided to stop (Uber) or pause (Lyft) operations in Austin, due to city council regulations.

We have reserved a block of 30 rooms at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel, for the dates of May 11 (check-in) through May 16 (check-out). The address is 303 W 15th St, Austin, TX 78701 (the corner of 15th and Lavaca), which is about half a mile from where most of SALT will take place.

Please use this personalized reservation page to access our group rates: http://doubletree.hilton.com/en/dt/groups/personalized/A/AUSFLDT-SLT-20160511/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG

You can also make a reservation over the phone; call 800-222-8733 and mention the group code "SLT".

The special rate ($200 / night) block offer expired at 1 AM on April 14th, 2016.

Alternatives

For other lodging options and more information about Austin, see Local Information.

Wikitravel has a page on UT and nearby attractions.

Food

For now, please see the NASSLLI 2012 - Food page for a listing of restaurants / cafés near campus. (I'll try to do a full update before SALT starts.)

Most of the places on the NASSLLI page are still there, but I would recommend checking Yelp! or Google Maps before venturing out.

Extra coffee

  • On Thursday, the closest coffee shop is the Starbucks in the SAC, the building just west of the CLA.
  • On Friday through Sunday, there is a cafe on the first floor, the Blanton Café, which is open:
    • Mon–Fri: 8am–4pm
    • Sat–Sun: 12pm–4pm

Parking

The UT Parking system has two garages that are near the CLA (Thursday) and very near EAS (Friday-Sunday): the Conference Center garage and the Brazos garage. Their parking rates are hourly, with a maximum of $18 / day.

There are private parking lots near / on campus that are cheaper, if not as close or predictable.

Due to the central location of the UT campus, you will have to venture about a mile out to find free street parking (I'd recommend looking just east of I-35), and then walk or bus over, but I know of some people who do that.
